About me

I began practicing family law in 2019 after I retired from a more than 40-year career leading the largest association of lawyers in Minnesota. I moved to Atwater Minnesota where I now live with my wife. I have always been interested in family law and particularly concerned about the problems people of ordinary means have in affording legal services.

Groshens Law the right law firm for you?

    GROSHENS LAW
If you are like most clients, you want in a lawyer who is competent, affordable, and willing to zealously represent your interests. Finding competent lawyers willing to zealously represent you is not a problem. Lawyers are attracted to the law because they want to help by representing your interests. Lawyer competence is ensured by attending three years of law school, taking a comprehensive exam to test their knowledge, and regularly attending continuing education courses. The challenge is finding an affordable lawyer who is also competent and able to zealously represent you. Groshens Law mission is to provide affordable quality family law services. We use the following three strategies.
    SLIDING FEE SCALE.
We use a sliding fee schedule that takes into account your income when we set our hourly rate. Providing you guidance on how you can minimize the number of hours we spend on your case. In certain cases, we offer a flat fee for our services. Warning. In spite of our best efforts to keep our services affordable, family law cases can be expensive. We invite you to contact us and discuss your case and have a conversation about costs.
    FIXED FEE Options
For certain types of cases, we offer the client an option of a flat fee for services. We understand how difficult it is to agree to an hourly rate without knowing how many hours your case will take. The reason most lawyers will not tell you how many hours your case will take is because they too do not know. Each family law case is unique and the number of hours your case takes depends on you, the other party, the courts, and similar factors. However there are some cases or steps in a case that are more predictable. For the following cases, Groshens Law offers a flat fee if the client is interested.Drafting the initial documents needed to start a divorce.Representing a client in a Joint Petition for dissolution.
